Performa/Dance, founded in Austin, Texas in 2014 by choreographer Jennifer Hart and dancer Edward Carr, presents exploratory, original dance work by women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ choreographers.

Through imaginative and ever-evolving processes, we reconsider contemporary ballet outside its bounds, in dialogue with artists across disciplines.

Bringing our lived experience to performance, we strive to connect with audiences using dance as a conduit for human understanding and expression.

Performa/Dance recently completed an exploratory workshop in preparation for our next major production coming the summer of 2024. Our most collaborative process to date, we’ve assembled a team with incredibly diverse backgrounds and artistic practices to conceive a work like none other. This new work interrogates experience and truths in our relationship to the natural world. Currently, we are building a narrative structure on which we will explore personal and collective journeys as it relates to art, nature, and humanity. Stay tuned for more updates and mark your calendars!

Thank you to all who came out to make THE MAD SCENE a success!

Our last major production, THE MAD SCENE was a darkly absurdist dance-drama that dove into the human longing for fame. Skipping through time periods and rollicking in anachronisms, THE MAD SCENE began in the 17th century court, made a pit stop mid-20th century, came to a screeching halt at our current internet-fueled celebrity culture, and in the process, skewered the veneer of performance, propaganda, and artificiality.
