Thank you to everyone who came out to experience or tenth anniversary performance ANTHROPOCENE AKA: Oh the Humanity! AKA: The Big Wah Wah! Aug 15 +16, 2025.

With 700+ in attendance across three shows and a SOLD OUT opening night, ANTHROPOCENE was our most well attended project to date. It was also our most ambitious production, with three co-directors/creators, complex scenic and technical design, and the largest cast weโ€™ve assembled. It was a labor of love and we could not be more proud.

We look forward to continuing our mission to present exploratory, original dance work by women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ choreographers as we enter our second decade as an organization. If you would like to support the work we do, please consider a tax-deductible donation. Thank you!

Performa/Dance, founded in Austin, Texas in 2014 by choreographer Jennifer Hart and dancer Edward Carr, presents exploratory, original dance work by women, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ choreographers.

Through imaginative and ever-evolving processes, we reconsider contemporary ballet outside its bounds, in dialogue with artists across disciplines.

Bringing our lived experience to performance, we strive to connect with audiences using dance as a conduit for human understanding and expression.

For ten years, Performa/Dance has been programming works by local and national choreographers, with the goal of showcasing historically underrepresented artists, including Minneapolis-based LGBTQ+ activist Nic Lincoln, Christian Warner, a rising star based in NYC, as well as local favorites, including BLiPSWiTCH, Magdalena Jarkowiec, Alexa Capareda, and ARCOS. Additionally, Performa/Dance consistently pushes itself in new directions, reevaluating the vocabulary used to communicate modern storytelling.

This project has been financed in whole or in part by the City of Austinโ€™s Elevate Grant Program.
